Reading Greens in second place in East Reading

At the Euro election count on Sunday, Reading Greens were delighted that they finished in second place in East Reading ahead of Labour and the Liberal Democrats.
At a ward level the Greens finished in first place in Park Ward with a majority of 361 votes, second place in Thames, Mapledurham and Caversham.
Across the borough the Greens finished third ahead of the Liberal Democrats.
Across the region, the Greens increased their vote by 3.8% points which was more than any other party and returned Green Euro MP Caroline Lucas.
Green Parliamentary candidate for Reading East, Rob White who came within 20 votes of becoming Reading's first Green councillor in 2008 said: "Thanks to everyone who voted Green. This was a really good local result, placing us in a great position for the next local and general elections."
"I'm happy that we returned Green Euro MP Caroline Lucas to the European Parliament, as since 1999 when she was first elected, she has been doing a great job of representing people in the region and spreading the Green values of fairness, integrity and the environment. However, although we got the biggest vote increase of any party, I was disappointed that it wasn't enough to elect Brighton Green councillor Keith Taylor to the European Parliament."

My Opinion
Promoting social liberalism, Lib Dems seek to minimise state intervention in personal affairs: they oppose what they call the 'nanny state'. Their president's book of office is John Stuart Mill's On Liberty, which defined the harm principle of seo law. While objecting to state limitations of individual rights, they favour a welfare state that provides for the necessities and amenities of life. They support multilateral foreign policy; they opposed British participation in the War in Iraq and support withdrawal of troops from the country, and are the most pro-EU of the three main parties in the UK. The party has strong environmentalist values – favouring renewable energy and commitments to deeper cuts in greenhouse gas emissions. Since their foundation, Lib Dems have advocated electoral reform to use proportional representation (a system which would increase their number of seats work at home and those of other minority parties), replacing the House of Lords with an elected chamber, and cutting government departments.
