Letter - Greens support public sector workers

Dear Sir,
Currently in the UK household bills are spiralling - fuel bills up 15%, Milk 17%, Bread 9%, mortgages 8%. Is it any wonder then that public sector workers are angry at the attempts by thi government to peg any wage rises to be between 2-3% for the next 3 years. These workers - who provide essential services for us all in our local communities - have already had below inflation pay rises for the past 10 years. Whilst at the same time local councils up and down the country are spending vast amounts of our money paying employment agencies to provide staff to cover vacant jobs they can‘t fill because of low wage rates. Why can‘t this money be used to help settle the current wage dispute which will help to recruit more staff?
The Green Party are strongly committed to the cause of social justice, and to defending our public services and the people who work for them. That‘s why we will be supporting the 2 days of action by local government workers on 16th/17th of July.
Yours sincerely,
